OPENING RECEPTION AT STUDIO A GALLERY, FRIDAY, JULY 18, 2014, 5-8 PM. Studio A Gallery is proud to exhibit and introduce Pasquale Monaco to the Tarrytown community and beyond. Although he has exhibited widely, this is his first one-person exhibition in the New York area. Monaco lives and works in Rome, Italy, after leaving his native city of Naples in l983. His work has been widely exhibited in Italy and has received much acclaim as evidenced by a catalogue of his exhibition in December 2011 by the Veio Sporting Club of Rome with a forward by Giovanni Buccomino, and being featured many times in the Italian Art, Culture and Lifestyle Magazine EXPOART. His oil paintings are collected privately and publicly to include the Vatican Museum.
Monaco’s inspiration is derived from what he can see and what he can feel. Remaining cognizant of that gap between the known and the felt, his explorations are deeply rooted in the familiar while his artistic style is expressionistically conceived and impressionistically manifested. His work reflects anon-naturalistic, imaginary and fauve-like use of color that transmits the artist’s instinctive feelings and keen emotions. Monaco’s paintings persuade the observers with realistic subjects and, at the same time, a synthesis that tells and reveals simultaneously his arduous yet inexorable journey as a painter. These beautiful oil paintings on canvas encompass several periods of time where Monaco explored the still life, the landscape, portraiture and the abstract patterns of his mind.
Although he began his career as a "traditonalist," his work evolved into a love of color and abstract form derived from the human being and nature. These artworks reflect the passion of artistic creation and conception. Their beauty lies in the conversation they offer to the spectator between Dionysian feeling and Apollonian configuration, between emotion and thought. The exhibition opens to the public on July 18,2014. There will be an opening reception from 5 PM to 8 PM on July 2014. The show continues through August 18, 2014. Studio A Gallery, co-directed by Athena Bing He and William C. Maxwell, is located at 52 Main Street, Tarrytown, New York 10591.
